Blogging is an effective tool for church ministries and missions if properly used. It is a great online communication platform that could be very useful for the church and mission. In my previous blog post, i discussed about the roles of blogging within the church´s communication strategy. There i mentioned some of the purposes of a blog and its value to the church.

Perhaps right now, you are new to blogging or planning to start a blog for your own church or ministry. You might be asking yourself the question, how to make my blog effective? What are the factors that contribute to the effectiveness of a blog especially within church ministry or mision context? Well, here are three factors that i believe that can help you with that questions.

1. Make your blog relevant.

The entire point of blogging is to build a relationship to your readers and give them information that is relevant and something they can connect with. If you are going to use blogging to build relationship between your ministry and to the online community, you must always make sure that what you write in your blog is relevant and applicable to a certain matter that they can relate personally.

You must avoid writing topics that does not make sense or too out of your mission. For instance, if your blog is about the youth ministry in your church, then you need to write topics where the youth can relate with. For example, you can write about topics like passion for music, advice on youth depression, tips on balancing church and studies etc. Write about something that includes useful and important information. Your blog should aim to help, educate and offer valuable informations to your readers.

Many blogs fail due to lack of relevance. Some blogs are too self-absorbed where authors only share their feelings and thoughts. This can pull them away from building a good relationship to their readers and eventually will not visit their blog anymore.

2. Make your blog engaging.

A blog post needs to be personal, interesting and interactive. You should always make sure that you write with a perfect grammar and spelling. Your blog post should be well-written and can be easily understood. Remember that you are writing for your readers, you are not writing a diary to keep for yourself. That is why, engaging your readers is extremely important. Try to generate as much discussion as possible in your blog. This a great way to connect with them and know your readers well. Remember that your blog represents your church ministry and your mission, and the more people you engaged to your post the more opportunities you have to share your purpose.

3. Make your blog consistent.

In order for your blog to become effective, you need to show to your readers that your blog is consistent and up-to-date. Again, always remember that you as a blogger reperesent your church ministry and once people find that you´re not consistent, they will think that the church as well. Your blog is the sign that your church is active and vibrant. That is why it is important to always keep your blog updated. You can do this by creating a blogging team who can keep manage every posts. Your team can help you develop and maintain your blog to keep it consistent and updated.

We all know that technology is important and social media is growing rapidly. There is no doubt that we are now living in a world where social media is very popular. That is why, many churches nowadays are embracing this digital platform to benefit the church and ministries. Many Pastors and church leaders use blogs as their tool for strategic communication.

Blogging can be a really powerful tool for churches, yet it is often ovelooked. A blog is any sort of content that is regularly updated. Blogging is a great way of engaging people and it shows that the church is active and vibrant. Here are some ways in which the church might include on its blog:

  1. News. The church can use blogs to keep its existing members informed and updated about its latest news. It can also make visitors aware of what is going on in the church that could motivate and inspire them to come.
  2. Articles for members. The church can also use blogs purposely to inspire its members. Blog posts can be about member testimonies, inspiring stories or encouraging messages that could help its members in their spiritual journeys.
  3. Articles for visitors and the public. The church can also write a blog post article designed for the people outside its congregation. For example, the church can write about what happened last Sunday´s service, to keep others informed what´s going on inside the church. It can create opportunities for other people on social media to visit the church´s website and perhaps encourage them to come to the church in person.

So what is the role of a blog within Church´s communication strategy? Here are at least four of them, paying particular attention to the purpose and it´s value to the church and ministry.

  1. Blog serves as a window into the heart of the church. Blogging helps the church to cast its vision towards its members and to the world. It opens an opportunity for others to see what the church do and its missions.
  2. Blog enables the physical church community to extend and persist beyond its walls. Through sharing stories about life, people can connect with the church in any day possible aside from attending Sunday´s services. Blogging also enables the church to extend and persist beyond its members and congregation. Through blogging, the church can even reach people from other countries, culture and religious beliefs.
  3. Blogging produces a trully phenominal return on ministry. Unlike any other digital platforms, blogging is one of the easiest and fastest way to communicate to the social media audiences. For such a minimal investment in training, time and money, one can reep the same benefit just like using other more complicated digital technologies. As long as one has a computer and able to write, you are good to go.
  4. Blogging can save the church to spend too much money. Yes, creating a blog is cheap. There are many blog sites for free and some with premium membership that costs not too expensive. It is very unlikely to spend too much money in blogging. In fact, with a small investment with your time and money, blogging can contribute huge dividends for the church.
